During British occupation from 1763 to 1783 and the second Spanish occupation from 1783 to 1821, Pensacola was the West Florida capital. Pensacola is called "The City of Five Flags" because, during its history it has been governed bySpain, France, Great Britain, the Confederate States of America, and the United States.
